When it comes to preparing your kids for the future, there are few better ways to do so than to help them learn how to code. For this generation, coding is as essential for success as reading, writing, and arithmetic.
What is coding? At the core of your favorite website, mobile app, or desktop program lies a written code helping to make your life easier. Simply defined, coding tells a computer what the user (you) want it to do.
Why is it important? Coding isn’t just for kids. In this day and age, a basic knowledge of coding can provide a distinct edge in this 21st century job market. This is precisely why we have partnered with JOURNi to provide free coding classes at the Ford Resource and Engagement Center (FREC).
With a mission centered around arming urban communities with the skills and resources necessary to jumpstart economic mobility, JOURNi is working to build an inclusive tech ecosystem in the city of Detroit.
How can I learn to code? Check out these three tips for beginning coders from JOURNi co-founder, Richard Grundy. And then, come to the FREC to learn more!
