On Saturday, April 21st, 300+ people packed the Ford Resource & Engagement Center in Southwest Detroit for a day of food, family fun, and literacy empowerment!
In partnership with Detroit Public Television, Southwest Solutions, United Children and Family, and the Kresge Foundation, FREC Southwest made a sizeable community impact with a total of:
- 31 families signed up to enroll children in early childhood education (preschool)
- 128 families connected to resources
- 410 books were given away to families<
- 30 people utilizing our hired bus for FREE transport
Thanks to the amazing team at DPTV, awesome partnerships, and a special appearance by Daniel Tiger, the event was bigger and better than ever before.

With a goal of promoting literacy and the importance of reading, The Word Ready Program was a great success as children were matched with quality pre-school programs and resources to assist them in gaining early language development for academic success.
